Chocolate Avocado Pudding
A healthier rich and creamy chocolate avocado pudding that’s ready in 10 minutes and made with only 5 ingredients. The secret ingredient: avocado!

This past week, I’ve been on a soft foods diet following my wisdom teeth removal. My meals have consisted of mashed potatoes, applesauce, smoothies, and soups. Sounds like a grand old time, right? Surprisingly, I never thought I could get tired of something as comforting as mashed potatoes. But once my sweet tooth kicks in, I start craving something rich and chocolatey. Unfortunately, I can’t munch on a chocolate bar, and I want to stay healthy while recovering.
I decided to try some chocolate yogurt. My mom picked some up for me, but when I read the ingredients, I was shocked to find 17 grams of added cane sugar. No thanks! That’s when I remembered a recipe for avocado chocolate pudding that I enjoyed a few years back. Bingo!
This vegan chocolate avocado pudding satisfies all my chocolate cravings without sacrificing my health goals. And trust me, you won’t even taste the avocados—just check out the rave reviews!
Is Chocolate Avocado Pudding Healthy?
Since this chocolate pudding is made with avocados, it’s loaded with nutrients. Avocados are a fantastic source of healthy fats, magnesium, and other essential nutrients, making this dessert not only delicious but also nutritious. They provide a smooth and silky texture to the pudding, and their mild flavor allows them to absorb the rich taste of chocolate. The result is an indulgent and healthy dessert that satisfies your sweet cravings without the guilt.
Pro-tip: Use ripe avocados that are still green and slightly soft. Overripe avocados that have turned brown will have a stronger flavor that can overpower the chocolate.
Why You’ll Love This Chocolate Avocado Pudding
- It’s ready in less than 10 minutes. Seriously, it’s almost too good to be true. All you have to do is add everything to a blender and process until creamy, which takes less than a minute.

- Health benefits. This healthy chocolate avocado pudding is loaded with anti-inflammatory compounds, fiber, healthy fats, magnesium, folate and vitamin E (to keep your skin glowing) thanks to the avocados. It’s completely vegan, dairy-free gluten-free and refined sugar-free.

- Avocados – creates the creamy base and offers a great source of fiber, healthy fats, and various vitamins and minerals. Make sure to use ripe avocados that are still green and slightly soft. Overripe avocados that have turned brown will have a stronger flavor that can overpower the chocolate.
- Non-Dairy Milk – this helps everything blend together. I use soy milk, but any milk will work such as almond milk, oat milk, cashew milk, or even coconut milk (though this will provide a slight coconut flavor).
- Cocoa Powder – to provide the chocolate flavor as well as antioxidants. Be sure to use your favorite unsweetened cocoa powder since this is what will provide the chocolate flavor. I love Target’s Good and Gather brand or Trader Joe’s cocoa powder.
- Maple Syrup – the natural sweetener.
- Vanilla Extract – to add a depth of flavor.
How To Make Chocolate Avocado Pudding
- Add the avocados, non-dairy milk, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to a blender or food processor. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Spoon the avocado chocolate pudding into jars and refrigerate until cold. I recommend using these little glass jars from Amazon for a perfect serving size.
- Serve the pudding with your favorite toppings, such as fresh berries, crushed nuts, or a dollop of non-dairy whipped cream.
Tips + Tricks When Making Chocolate Avocado Pudding
- Ripe avocados – be sure to use avocados that are still green and soft for the best creamy consistency and flavor. Avocados that are hard and not ripe enough will be hard to break down. Avocados that are brown inside or too ripe will have a bit of a stronger flavor.
- Blend well – don’t be shy when blending. Let it blend for a minute or longer, until it’s super creamy.
- Taste and adjust – once the mixture is blended, take a spoon and taste it and adjust for flavors. If you feel like you can taste the avocado, add more cocoa powder or vanilla extract. If it’s bitter, add more maple syrup. If it’s too thick, add more non-dairy milk.
Serving Suggestions
I love to enjoy this chocolate pudding with dairy-free coconut whipped cream, raspberries and some chocolate shavings. But of course, it’s personal preference, so feel free to get creative. Some topping ideas include:
- Fresh berries – raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, they all pair well with chocolate!
- Coconut whipped cream – adds a bit of creaminess to the pudding. I highly recommend adding a dollop of this!
- Chopped nuts – hazelnuts are notorious for pairing well with chocolate. Sliced almonds are delicious as well.
- Chocolate Shavings – adds an elegant flare to the dessert. I just shave a chocolate bar with a grater to get the chocolate shavings. You can shop Hu Chocolate with my discount code booboo.
- Sea salt – a sprinkle of flaky sea salt adds a great contrast to the rich chocolate flavor.
I highly recommend giving this healthier version of chocolate pudding a try and impress everyone with its amazing taste and texture! If you’re like me, try and trick your friends and family into thinking it’s real chocolate pudding. It’s fun seeing their reaction when you tell them it’s made from avocados.
