A healthier rich and creamy chocolate pudding that's ready in 10 minutes and made with just 5 ingredients. The secret ingredient: avocado!

This past week I’ve been on a soft foods diet since getting my wisdom teeth out. Mashed potatoes, applesauce, smoothies, and soups. Sounds like a grand old time, right? I never thought I could get sick of something as delicious as mashed potatoes. But once my sweet tooth kicks in, I long for something rich and chocolatey. I can’t munch on a chocolate bar, and I need to stay relatively healthy while my body is recovering. So I thought chocolate yogurt would be good, so my mom got me some and I read the ingredients… 17 grams of added cane sugar. Nope. Then, I called to mind this healthy chocolate pudding I had a few years ago that was made from avocados and bingo! All my chocolate cravings were satisfied without sacrificing my health goals. Of course, this Chocolate Avocado Pudding isn’t just for wisdom tooth recovery (though it makes a great option), it’s delicious all the time, cause who doesn’t like pudding?

Yes, you read that right, this Chocolate Avocado Pudding is made from avocados. But I promise, you can’t taste it. Avocados are an incredible source of healthy fats, magnesium, and other essential nutrients. They give this pudding a smooth and silky texture and since they have a relatively low flavor profile, they take on the flavor of the chocolate, creating a lush dessert Be sure to use avocados that are still green and slightly soft. Avocados that are brown (too ripe) have a bit of a stronger flavor.

Why You’ll Love This Chocolate Avocado Pudding

It’s ready in less than 10 minutes. Seriously, it’s almost too good to be true. All you have to do is add everything to a blender and process until it’s creamy, which takes less than a minute.

Just 5 ingredients. All you need to make this lush chocolate pudding are 5 simple ingredients.

Health benefits. Since it’s made with avocados, this chocolate pudding is loaded with anti-inflammatory compounds, fiber, healthy fats, magnesium, folate and vitamin E (to keep your skin glowing). It’s completely vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free.

I can’t believe it’s not chocolate pudding! My twist on the “I can’t believe it’s not butter” slogan. No but seriously, this Chocolate Avocado Pudding is so delicious, you’ll think it’s the chocolate pudding you grew up on!

Chocolate Avocado Pudding Ingredients

• Avocados – creates the creamy base and offers a great source of fiber, healthy fats, and various vitamins and minerals. Be sure to use avocados that are still green and soft. Avocados that are brown (too ripe) have a bit of a stronger flavor.

• Non-Dairy Milk – this helps everything blend together. I use soy milk, but any milk will work.

• Cocoa Powder – to provide the chocolate flavor as well as antioxidants. Be sure to use your favorite cocoa powder since this is what will provide the chocolate flavor. I love Target’s Good and Gather brand or Trader Joe’s cocoa powder.

Maple Syrup – the natural sweetener.

Vanilla Extract – to add a depth of flavor.

How To Make Chocolate Avocado Pudding

Blend the avocados with non-dairy milk, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt until it’s smooth and creamy.

Spoon into jars and refrigerate until cold and you’ll have a delicious and nutritious dessert ready to enjoy. These are the little glass jars I use from Amazon.

Serve with desired toppings.

Tips + Tricks When Making Chocolate Avocado Pudding

• Ripe avocados – be sure to use avocados that are still green and soft for the best creamy consistency and flavor. Avocados that are hard and not ripe enough will be hard to break down. Avocados that are brown inside or too ripe will have a bit of a stronger flavor.

• Blend well – don’t be shy when blending. Let it blend for a minute or longer, until it’s super creamy.

• Taste and adjust – once the mixture is blended, take a spoon and taste it and adjust for flavors. If you feel like you can taste the avocado, add more cocoa powder or vanilla extract. If it’s bitter, add more maple syrup. If it’s too thick, add more non-dairy milk.

Serving Suggestions

I love to enjoy this Chocolate Avocado Pudding with coconut whipped cream, raspberries and some chocolate shavings. But of course, it’s personal preference, so feel free to get creative. Some topping ideas include:

• Fresh berries – raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, they all pair well with chocolate!

• Coconut whipped cream – adds a bit of creaminess to the pudding. I highly recommend adding a dollop of this!

• Chopped nuts – hazelnuts are notorious for pairing well with chocolate. Sliced almonds are delicious as well.

• Chocolate Shavings – adds an elegant flare to the dessert. I just shave a Hu Chocolate bars with a grater to get the chocolate shavings. Hu chocolate is made with clean ingredients and refined sugar free. Use my code BOOBOO for a discount.

• Sea salt – a sprinkle of flaked sea salt adds a great contrast to the rich chocolate flavor.

I highly recommend giving this healthier version of chocolate pudding a try and impress everyone with its amazing taste and texture! If you’re like me, try and trick your friends and family into thinking it’s real chocolate pudding. It’s fun seeing their reaction when you tell them it’s made from avocados.

This was SO easy my 6 year old made it (mostly). We’ve tried multiple times now. Swapping out sweeteners, adding fruit, nut butter swirls, made into Popsicles its SO fun and nutrients dense.
