Sweet, spiced pears are topped with a crunchy, nutty crisp that’s bursting with flavor in this healthy pear crisp. Made with wholesome ingredients, it’s vegan, gluten free, and refined sugar free.

Move over apples, it’s pears time to shine! I have to admit, as much as I love vegan apple crisp, pear crisp is special in it’s own way. Soft, spiced pears are baked to perfection and topped with nuts and oats for a better-for-you twist on an old classic.

My healthy fruit crisps are some of the most popular recipes on my site, from my healthy berry crisp, to my healthy peach crisp, and another fall favorite, my healthy apple crisp. There’s just something about warm fruit and cold ice cream. And don’t forget to top it with vanilla ice cream!

This is just a recipe overview! Scroll down to the recipe card to get the full recipe with measurements.

  • Pears – slice the pears thinly to ensure they cook thoroughly and soften. I used organic bartlett pears.
  • Rolled Oats – use certified gluten free rolled oats if needed.
  • Almond Flour – depending on allergies, you can substitute for oat flour or regular flour.
  • Walnuts + Sliced Almonds – adds a delicious crunch. Feel free to substitute for any other nuts, such as pecans.
  • Maple Syrup – you can also use agave or honey, but honey will make the recipe not vegan.
  • Vegan Butter – melted refined coconut oil will also work here.
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Coconut Sugar – just 1/2 tablespoon. You can also use any other kind of granulated sugar: brown, cane, maple, date, etc.
  • Spices – a cozy combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, ground ginger and salt.

How to Make Healthy Pear Crisp

Start by slicing your pears. You can peel the skin or leave it on, that’s totally your preference. I like to peel them. Add the sliced pears to the baking dish and toss with coconut sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and ground ginger.

Freshly baked vegan pear crisp.

Make the crisp topping by mixing together the oats, almond flour, walnuts, sliced almonds, maple syrup, vegan butter, vanilla and spices to a bowl.

Pour the crisp topping on top of the pears and bake in the oven. It’s super easy to make and nearly impossible to mess up. Once it’s done baking (the smell is amazing), scoop yourself a big bowl, top it with ice cream, and dig in!

My Secrets to Perfect Pear Crisp

  • Use ripe but slightly firm pears: Just avoid soft pears since they’ll turn mushy in the oven.
  • Evenly slice your pears: This helps get an even bake.
  • Bake until bubbly: The filling should be juicy and bubbling around the edges, that’s how you know it’s ready. If the topping starts to brown too quickly, just cover it with foil and keep baking until the apples are tender.

Serving Ideas

My favorite way to enjoy pear crisp? Fresh from the oven (still warm) with a big scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream on top. You know when the ice cream starts to melt into the crisp? That’s the perfect bite!

Some other serving ideas:

  • Add a big scoop of your favorite vanilla ice cream or coconut whipped cream
  • Serve with vegan yogurt for a fall breakfast (yes, I believe in pear crisp for breakfast)
