Chocolate Nice Cream (3 ingredients)
You only need 3 ingredients to make this Chocolate Nice Cream that tastes like ice cream but with healthier ingredients that are vegan & refined sugar-free. It’s rich, creamy, topped with homemade hot fudge & ready in less than 10 minutes!
You may be wondering, what is ‘nice cream’? Well, it’s ice cream that’s nicer to your stomach (LOL). In all seriousness, nice cream is simply an ice cream alternative made from frozen bananas that are blended into a creamy consistency similar to ice cream. I still remember the first day I made nice cream. It was chocolate, of course. In fact, it was this chocolate nice cream recipe (minus a few tweaks I made to perfect it). My family and I went crazy for it. It has easily become the dessert of the summer. I think it will for you, too!
You may also be wondering, will I taste the banana? Depending on the ripeness of your bananas, it’s hard to say, The riper the banana, the sweeter your nice cream will be and the less banana flavor will come through. The cocoa powder also does a really good job at overpowering the banana flavor. Then once you add the hot fudge on top, it’s like a true ice cream sundae!
Why You’ll Love Chocolate Nice Cream
- Creamy consistency – frozen bananas make this nice cream super creamy!
- Better-for-you ingredients – healthy ice cream? Count me in! You only need 3 simple ingredients before you’re indulging in this delicious ‘copycat” ice cream.
- Easy to make – simply add all of the ingredients into a high-speed blender or food processor until its ice cream consistency. You’ll be eating ice cream in less than 10 minutes!
- Endless possibilities – there are so many ice cream flavors out there and with this simple nice cream base, the possibilities are endless! Add some peanut butter to make a chocolate peanut butter flavor, add some toasted coconut and toasted almonds to make an almond joy flavor, add some Oreos to make a cookies & cream flavor, etc.
What Do I Need to Make 3-ingredient Chocolate Nice Cream?
- Frozen Sliced Bananas – the riper the banana, the sweeter your nice cream will be and the less banana flavor will come through. I recommend slicing the bananas before freezing them so it’s easier for your blender to process.
- Cocoa Powder – use your favorite cocoa powder for the best chocolate flavor.
- Vanilla Extract – to add a depth of flavor.
How to make Chocolate Nice Cream
- Add the frozen sliced bananas, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract into a high-speed blender or food processor. Make sure to use a powerful blender/food processor to get the best consistency. I use a Vitamix blender. If you don’t have a powerful blender, just add 1-2 tablespoons of non-dairy milk to assist your machine.
- Time to blend! If you’re using a blender/Vitamix, I recommend using the dampener to help blend everything together. It should be similar to a soft serve consistency. Again, it your blender needs some assistance blending everything, add 1-2 tablespoons of non-dairy milk.
- Scoop your banana nice cream into bowls and enjoy right away! I like to serve it in these little glass jars I found on Amazon.
Toppings
What’s ice cream without the toppings?
Hot fudge is my favorite topping. I make a healthier homemade hot fudge that is so delicious and made with just 4 ingredients! Once you try it, you’ll never go back to store-bought hot fudge that’s loaded with artificial ingredients and fillers. You can find the recipe in the recipe card below.
Other topping ideas include:
- chopped nuts
- cacao nips or mini chocolate chips
- peanut butter
- vegan whipped cream
- fresh berries
- cookie crumbles (make my vegan & gluten-free chocolate chip cookies to crumble in your nice cream!)
