Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
This 4-ingredient chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie is creamy, naturally sweetened, and ready in 5 minutes. A healthy smoothie that’s perfect for breakfast, snack, or dessert!

Chocolate, banana, and peanut butter might just be one of my favorite combinations. My love for it goes all the way back to when I was about 4 years old and my dad would get me a chunky monkey smoothie from a local smoothie shop.
This chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie seriously tastes like dessert, but it’s made with just 4 wholesome ingredients. It’s creamy, chocolatey, peanut buttery, and naturally sweetened with banana.
I’ve been making this smoothie recipe for years. Whether for a healthy breakfast, a filling snack, or a guilt-free dessert, it’s perfect any time of day.
Ingredients Needed
You only need 4 simple ingredients (which you probably already have on hand) to make the most delicious chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie recipe!
- Banana: Use a frozen ripe banana for natural sweetness and a creamy, cold texture.
- Cocoa Powder: For that rich chocolate flavor.
- Peanut Butter: Adds a delicious peanut butter flavor and smooth creaminess. Feel free to swap it with almond butter, or sunflower seed butter for a nut-free option.
- Non-Dairy Milk: I use soy milk for extra protein and creaminess, but you can use any milk you like (oat, almond, cashew milk)

How to Make a Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
Making this smoothie is incredibly easy—it’s truly a foolproof recipe that I’ve made countless times!
- Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Pour into a glass, and enjoy!

Megan’s Tips
- Use a frozen banana. I always freeze my ripe bananas so I have them ready for smoothies and smoothie bowls. It’s a great habit to start instead of tossing out overripe bananas!
- Sweeten to taste. I find this smoothie is the perfect balance of sweetness, but if you like it extra sweet, try adding 1 pitted medjool date or 1 tablespoon of maple syrup.
- Swap the peanut butter. You can easily swap the peanut butter for almond butter, or use sunflower seed butter for a nut-free option.
- Boost your smoothie. Add protein powder, ground flaxseed, maca powder, hemp seeds, or even spinach (you won’t taste it!).
Topping Your Chocolate Banana Smoothie
Elevate your smoothie with some of these toppings:
- hemp Seeds
- sliced Banana
- cacao Nibs (or vegan mini chocolate chips)
- granola
- coconut flakes
- drizzle of Peanut Butter

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this smoothie healthy?
I’d say so! This chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie is loaded with fiber and potassium from the banana, healthy fats and protein from the peanut butter, antioxidants from the cocoa powder, and various nutrients from the non-dairy milk (depending on which one you use).
What’s the best peanut butter to use in smoothies?
I recommend using all-natural or homemade peanut butter for this chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie since it will blend more easily. Look for peanut butter made with just peanuts (and maybe salt).
