It’s here — the most wonderful time of the year, and I’m so excited share this year’s Christmas cookie box with you!
Every December, I create a holiday cookie box filled with vegan and gluten-free cookies. It’s so fun to look back at older boxes and see how each one has evolved check out last years cookie box here. But this year’s box has stolen my heart.
This year, I’m adding in some new favorites (my copycat crumbl churro cookies!) alongside the classics we bake year after year. I spent the last six weeks deep in cookie-testing mode bringing this box to life, and it was quite the journey. Between traveling and getting sick with the flu, there were moments I genuinely wasn’t sure I’d finish in time. But somehow, it all came together. Call it a Christmas miracle!
So the result? 8 better-for-you cookie recipes that are easy to make but look like they required much more effort.
With holiday classics like peanut butter blossoms and gingerbread cookies, to festive twists inspired by childhood favorites like muddy buddies and fluffernutters — all reimagined in cookie form. And of course, my personal favorite this year: those irresistible copycat crumbl churro cookies.

I hope this inspires you to create your own holiday cookie box using these recipes. Whether you bake a small assortment or go all-out, it’s a thoughtful homemade gift that always brings joy!

How to Make a Christmas Cookie Box
1. Pick Your Cookie Recipes
You don’t need to make each cookie recipe, unless you’re feeling ambitious. Choose anywhere from 2 to 8 recipes based on your time and energy.
I recommend mixing up shapes, sizes, and flavors for variety. This not only makes your box more exciting to eat, but also more visually appealing.
Every year during my 12 Days of Christmas Cookies series over on Instagram, I test a full lineup of recipes, but this year, I narrowed my final box down to eight cookies, plus a few shards of matcha peppermint bark (because it’s festive and so good). But for a more manageable box, four to six cookies is a good range — no need to overdo it.
2. Bake the Cookies
Plan a fun and festive baking day with family or friends. Timing is everything during the holidays. Here are some ways to stay stress-free:
- Bake in advance: Many of these cookies freeze beautifully, so you can prep them a few weeks ahead of time by baking the cookies, letting them cool, and placing them in an airtight bag in the freezer. Then, thaw when needed.
- Bake fresh: Bake them the day before (or morning of) gifting for maximum freshness.
- Mix it up: Freeze some cookies and bake others fresh for a balance.
Whatever you choose, make sure you enjoy the process — holiday baking should feel joyful!
3. Assemble the Cookie Box
For gifting, I love using these brown bakery boxes with a window. These festive cookie tins are another great option, and lining your boxes with holiday parchment paper is the cutest touch!
For smaller gifts, these decorative holiday cookie boxes or gingerbread house shaped cookie boxes are adorable. And if you’re gifting just one or two cookies, these cookie bags or small gingerbread boxes work beautifully.
4. Add Decorative Touches
Tie some ribbons around the cookies, tuck in candy canes, add some matcha peppermint bark pieces, or scatter a few festive vegan chocolate kisses for pops of color. I love decorating the outside of the box with a red ribbon and a sprig of rosemary for a simple yet elegant look. Finish with a gift tag so each box feels personal and thoughtful.
